"The death of Mrs. Mary Ellen Gunn, an old resident of Jackson township, in Jewell county, occurred Friday Nov 14. She was 89 years, 8 months and 19 days of age.
Born in Putnam County, IL Feb. 25, 1858, she was Miss Mary Ellen Vale before her marriage to William W. Gunn on Oct. 16, 1879.
The couple began their married life in Great Bend, KS later moving to Jewell county and Mrs. Gunn lived on the present homesite 54 years.
Seven children were born to this union, all of whom are survivors. They are Chester C., Lucian L., Sadie H., William W., Ralph, Preston, and Marion E. Sadie and Marion are at home and the others are in the vicinity. Also surviving are 14 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Preceeding her in death were her husband, six brothers, and one sister.
Mrs. Gunn was of the Quaker faith, having membership in the Clear Creek Friends church near McNabb, IL.."
