J. Edward Gootee, 67, an electrician of Chesapeake, Va., formerly of Salisbury, died yesterday in his home. He had a heart condition.
Born near Stockton, he was the son of Mrs. Gertrude Short of Salisbury, who survives, and the late Leroy Gootee.
Mr. Gootee was born and raised in Salisbury. He had lived in Chesapeake since 1941.
Surviving, besides his mother, are his widow, Mrs. Juanita Gootee of Chesapeake; three daughters, Mrs. Doris G. Bradley of Salisbury and the Misses Bonita and Julia Gootee of Chesapeake; a son, Robert Edward Gootee of Ansbach, Germany; a step-son, William Edward Richardson of Wekefield, Mass.; eight grandchildren and a brother, Dalton Gootee of Salisbury.
He was a member of the Chesapeake-Grassfield Baptist Church and the Ruritan Club of Chesapeake.
