SARAH ELLEN STINEMATES
Mrs. Andrew Jackson Ashbaugh, a resident of Grant 52 years, died at her home there Saturday morning at 2:30 p’clock following a decline of health for the last two years. Her condition did not become alarming until two weeks previous to her death.
Sarah Ellen Stinemates was born in Muskingum County, Ohio on March 13, 1949 and was the only daughter in a family of five children. She was married to Andrew Jackson Ashbaugh in Kirkwood, Illinois and to this union were born twelve children, eleven of whom survive. They are Mrs. Nora Potter, Washington, Iowa, John C. Ashbaugh, and Mrs. Alma Wasmer, Griswold; Mrs. Bessie McCue, Juddie Ashbaugh, Mrs. Jennie Norcross, and Jay H. Ashbaugh, Grant, Roland S. and Walter V. Ashbaugh, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Mrs. Millie Huff, Cedar Rapids; Chester A. Ashbaugh, New Market.
Mrs. Ashbaugh and her family moved to Grant in 1875, where her husband died on June 27, 1914. Besides her children, she leaves three brothers, Lee of Grant, Simeon of Nebraska, and James of Villisca, all of whom were present at her funeral. Herbert Stinemates on Monmouth, Illinois, nephew of the deceased, also attended the funeral.
Mrs. Ashbaugh was a member of the Methodist Church since 1868 and she was a member of the Circle in Grant. Her funeral was held Monday at 2 p.m., with Rev. A. Breeling in charge. Interment was in the Grant Cemetery beside her husband.
