Services for Lyla Ulmer Dreier will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church in Rose Hill, with the Rev. Phillip Smith officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Methodist Church Cemetery with Robert Barham Family Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Dreier, 87, died Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013, at Baptist Hospital in Jackson. Lyla Ulmer Dreier was born on April 17, 1925. She spent her early years in Meridian. She graduated from high school in 1942 and then went to Germany to work in the Nurenberg Trials. Mr. Dreier graduated from West Point in 1946 and was sent to Germany, where they were married in Wiesbaden. His first assignment was in Pittsburgh, Pa. They went to Japan for three years then Ft. Lee, Va., where Donald resigned from the Army and went to work with Exxon. They lived in numerous places, including Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.; Peekskill, N.Y.; Beirut, Lebanon; Caracas, Venezuela; Summit, N.J.; Brussels, Belgium; Stanford, Conn.; Jensen Beach, Fla. and Jackson.
She is survived by her children: Susan D. Culverhouse, who resides in Ft. Pierce, Fla., Elizabeth Ann Dreier Fullman, who resides in Ridgeland, and Donald Warren Dreier Jr., who resides in Singapore; seven grandchildren; her brother, Roland Curtis Ulmer Sr., who resides in Athens, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald W. Dreier Sr.; and son, Henry Brian Dreier.
Visitation will be held Saturday, from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. at the funeral home.
