Final rites were scheduled to be held at 4 PM Monday for Benjamin Franklin (Frank) Calhoun, 87, who died early Sunday, Sept 13th, 1953 at his home, Route 3, Lufkin.
Services were to be held in the Homer Methodist Church with the Rev. James E. Harrell, officiating. Burial was to be in Fielders Cemetery under the direction of Oakley-Metacalf Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Andrew Watson Shoffitt, Ezekiel D. Dennis, Robert Lee Dykes, Eldridge Weaver, Morris Goldsberry, and Junior Calhoun.
Mr. Calhoun was born March 20, 1866 at Many, Louisiana. He had been a resident of Angelina County for 80 years. He was a mail carrier for ten years.
He was the husband of Amanda "Mandy" Dennis, married 13 Oct. 1896, she preceeded him in death on Jul. 21, 1951.
Mr. Calhoun was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include three sons, John Robert Calhoun, Benjamin Franklin Calhoun Jr. both of Lufkin, and William Pierce Calhoun, who is in the United States Air Force, stationed in Japan; Five daughters, Clara Calhoun Dykes, Burk, Callie Calhoun Dennis and Mary Ellen Calhoun Williams, both of Lufkin, Cecil Calhoun Stanley, Zavalla, Ola Calhoun Goldsberry, Huntington; one sister, Josephene Calhoun Weaver, Diboll, 21 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
