United States Air Force General. He was a graduate of the United States Air Force Academy in 1965. He was the commander of operations and maintenance squadrons, the Air Force's only stealth fighter unit, and an air division and numbered air force. Later in life, he was commander in chief of the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) and the United States Space Command (USSC). He also served as commander in the Air Force Space Command (AFSC). He also served as director for operations of the Joint Staff, the Pentagon, Washington, D.C. He became the chairman of the board for  DigitalGlobe in 2007 and Maxar Technologies in 2019. He attended the  United States Air Force Academy,  Auburn University, the  Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama, and the National War College at Fort Lesley J. McNair, Washington, D.C. During the Vietnam War, he flew 169 combat missions as an F-4 pilot and was the deputy chief of staff for operations, Strategic Air Command in the Gulf War. He retired in 1998.
