Duane E. Hofer, 85, of Buckley died at 9:33 a.m. Wednesday, January 11, 2017 at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 14, 2017, at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 206 E. Main Street, Buckley with Rev. J. Kevin Wyckoff officiating. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Baier Family Funeral Services, Buckley is assisting the family with arrangements.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Buckley and also one hour before the funeral service Saturday.

Duane was born June 25, 1931 in Claytonville the son of Eli and Fern Boyce Hofer. He married Norma Weber November 28, 1953 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Buckley. She survives.

Along with his wife, Norma, he is survived by two daughters, Cindy (Larry) Woods of Cincinnati, Ohio, Kari (Alan) Dudley of Lake Iroquois, Loda; a son, Kendall (Cherrie) Hofer of Buckley; nine grandchildren, Brandi (Brannon) Player, Shawn and Kelsey Woods, Kali (Matt) Denault, Kami (Rob) Winnicki, Kandace Hofer, Payton, Braydon and Carson Dudley; four great grandchildren, Kaidyn and Kason Sledge, Brextyn Player, Kyler Woods; two brothers, Marvin Hofer of Rankin, Larry (Sue) Hofer of Rankin; three sisters, Virginia Barr of Rankin, Patricia (Mike) Bushue of Rankin, Connie (Tom) Cain of Carmel, Indiana; a sister-in-law, Judy Hofer of Gibson City and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gordy Hofer.

Duane graduated from Rankin High School in 1949. He retired from Civil Service in 1990 having worked in the Heating Shop at Chanute Air Force Base for more than 31 years. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, Buckley.

He enjoyed playing cards, fishing and bowling. His greatest joy was spending time with his family, helping with taking care of his grandchildren and hanging out with his best friends, which were his brothers.
