Harold Alonzo Bluemel, 90, of West Haven, Utah returned to his Heavenly Father, on April 12, 2015.

He was born to the late Harold E. Bluemel and Violet L. Felter on June 4, 1924 in Evanston, Wyoming at his grandparent’s home. He married his sweetheart Afton on February 23, 1943 in Paris, Idaho, solemnizing their vows in the Salt Lake Temple on June 1, 1944. They were married for 72 years.

Dad was a World War II veteran, serving from 1942- 1946.

In 1951, Dad and Mom moved to the Ogden, Utah area where they have lived for the past 64 years. After working at Ogden Ford Sales for seven years as a respected mechanic, he left to start his own business, eventually opening Bluemel Auto Repair with his son Terry in 1972. At age 90 after 42 years in business, he retired.

He was active in the LDS Church and has held various ward and stake positions. One of his favorite callings was coaching the ward basketball team to a finish in the Final Four of the All-Church Tournament. For six years, he served in two bishoprics. He then served as Bishop in the Ogden Sixteenth Ward for eight years.

Dad loved cars, especially, Cadillacs. Also, Dad enjoyed sports. He coached and sponsored basketball and softball teams and loved to watch the Jazz on TV with Mom. For fun, Dad and Mom bowled in leagues for more than 50 years, enjoyed camping in the Uinta’s, and were avid fishermen. They loved spending time with the family.

Dad is survived by his four children and a Navajo daughter; Sherry (Ray) Meibos, H. Ronald (Margo) Bluemel, Terry (Nancy) Bluemel, all of Ogden, Utah; Cindy (David) Howard, St. George, Utah and Gloria Ann Chee Barber, Fruitland, New Mexico. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and three great- great -grandchildren with one on the way. Also surviving are 3 sisters and two brothers; Lucille Jones Boham, Lorna (Darrell) Loftus, Shannon Hadley, Florin (Beverly) Bluemel, Bobby (Phyllis) Bluemel.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Afton; parents, Harold E. and Violet Bluemel, and one great-grandchild, Cy Robert Bartruff.

The family would like to thank Zion’s Way Home Health and Hospice, especially Jason Olsen and Minnie Summa for the special care and comfort they gave our dad.
