Born in Hazleton, May 7, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Rose Dugan Gemmell.
Judy graduated from Nativity BVM High School in 1961. After graduating, she cared for children until some went to college. She went on to work in housekeeping at the Pottsville Hospital for many years before becoming ill.
She had resided at Rest Haven nursing home for the past six years, receiving incredible care. While at Rest Haven, she was a star fundraiser for the PEER Group, activities and other causes. This task gave her the opportunity to meet and greet almost everyone there. They called her "The Mayor." She held the president and vice president positions in the PEER Group. Judy was a knight in shining armor to all who knew her. She gave from her heart, always giving to everyone, especially her nieces and nephews.
Judy was a member of St. Michael Archangel Roman Catholic Church, Minersville, and a member of the former St. Kieran Church, Heckscherville.
She was also a member of the Good Will Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary.
Her excellent crocheting skills earned her a first place at the county fair.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Joseph, John and Bernard Gemmell.
Surviving are brothers, James (Hildred Schneider), Thomas (Janice Kodash), Daniel (Maria Albrecht), Robert (Kathryn Heinbach) and Edward (Diana Means) Gemmell; sisters, Rosemarie (Michael) Dmiterchik, Margaret (Ronald) Blischok, Catherine (Thomas) Volkmann, Agnes (Joseph) Shellhammer Sr., Mary Ellen Gemmell, CSFN, and Anne Gemmell; sisters-in-law, Betty Bryant, Rita Brown Gemmell and Joanne Pavolko Gemmell; an aunt, Ann Terry Gemmell; nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friend, Mary Seitzinger, and her Rest Haven family.
Donald J. Butler Funeral Home, 328 Sunbury St., Minersville, had charge of arrangements. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 539 Sunbury St., Minersville, with the Rev. Adam Sedor as the celebrant. Interment was in St. Kieran's No. 2 Cemetery, Llewellyn.
