John Wesley Ross died after contracting yellow fever, December 13, 1849, somewhere along Bayou Atchafalaya, while piloting a steam boat in the parish of Avoyelles, Louisiana, He left two sons, Morgan St.Clair Ross and Capt Abbott Quincy Ross by his first wife Virginia Eliza Fibbs/Phibbs. These two boys were left in the care of Johns parents, St. Clair Ross and mother Rebecca. He also had (unknown to any of his Ross family a third son, J. W. Ross, born 1849 in Louisiana.
This last son through his third wife, Lucretia (Lazarus)Murrell-Nash-Ross.
Lucretia had two older children. These i found along with young J.W. Ross, in the 1850 census, living now with Lucretia's parents, William and Polly Lazarus of Mississippi.
