Born in Junedale, she was the daughter of the late William and Kathryn (McCole) Dugan. She lived in the Hazleton area for 50 years and the Glen Dower area for 29 years, prior to moving to Minersville.
She was a graduate of St. Gabriel's High School, Hazleton, and the McCann School of Business, Mahanoy City.
Mrs. Gemmell was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Church, Minersville.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Joseph, who died in 1979, and a son, Bernard, in 1945.
Surviving are daughters, Rosemarie Dmiterchik, Pottstown, Margaret Blischok, Linden, N.J., Catherine Volkmann, Sullivan, Wis., Agnes Shellhammer, Somerset, N.J., Sister Mary Ellen, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and Judy and Anna, both of Minersville; sons, Joseph, Washington, D.C., James, Malvern, Thomas, Pottstown, Daniel, Tampa, Fla., Robert, Allentown, John, Minersville, and Edward, Valier; 31 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held from the Mahal-Ritzel Funeral Home, Minersville.
Interment was in St. Kieran's No. 2 Cemetery, Branch Township.
