Bettye Elrod, 76, passed away Monday, Jan. 25, 2010, after a brief illness.

Service: At Trinity Episcopal Church, 3401 Bellaire Drive S., Fort Worth.

Bettye was born May 24, 1933, in Paris, Texas, to Elbert Johnson Hunter and Grace Vest Hunter.

She graduated from Texas Christian University in 1953 with a bachelor's in music education. Surely the most exciting job she ever had was her two years as a flight attendant for Central Airlines.

She retired from TCU after 25 years and then gave 10 more as a volunteer and part-time employee at Baylor All Saints Hospital.

In every job, in every circumstance, Bettye was known for her eagerness to help others, her lively conversation and her keen sense of humor. She counted among her dearest friends every animal she'd ever cared for, including Ike, Popi, Lattan and Omi. Her life was also enriched by more than 50 years' membership in Trinity Episcopal Church. Above all, Bettye cherished her family, faith, friends and Horned Frogs.

Survivors: Son, Steven Alan McGaw; daughter, Carolyn Michelle Suttmiller; son, Robert Elrod and wife, Melisa Rodriguez Elrod; and grandchildren, David Reed Suttmiller, Shannon Renee Suttmiller and Johnson Hunter Elrod.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to either Trinity Episcopal Church of Fort Worth or the Humane Society of North Texas.
